AKC Canine Good Citizen
This class is created by the American Kennel Club. It is a 6 week program that is designed to teach dogs good manners at home and in the community. It stresses responsible pet ownership for owners and basic obedience for dogs. It is based on teaching 10 skills that every dog should know, including stranger acceptance, walking through crowds, basic commands, reaction to other dogs, noise distractions, and separation anxiety. All dogs who pass the 10-step CGC test at the end of the class receive a certificate AKC form. Dogs must be at least 1 year old.
Lil’ Puppy Paws (Puppies 8-20 weeks): This class is great for young puppies! We provide a safe, fun environment for young pups to explore their world and meet new puppies. Puppy parents will gain valuable information about how their puppy grows and develops. This age is the most important time for a puppy to attend a stress free puppy class.
Puppy Paws (Puppies 5-9 months old): This class is just right for the older pup/young adolescent. Pups at this age aren’t quite ready for a Level 1 Obedience Class, so we’ve developed Puppy Paws. This class is primarily socialization and healthy play mixed with learning foundation skills that set your pup up for a successful life. Topics covered include: basic leash manners, go to place, settle, and healthy play.
Both classes follow the AKC S.T.A.R. Puppy program. These classes together lay the foundation for earning the AKC Canine Good Citizen Certificate.
Basic Obedience 1
Good Dog! Life Skills & Manners (Dogs 9 months and older): Everyone wants their dog to be a Good Dog – and they can be! This class is designed for older adolescent and adult dogs. This class develops strong communication between person and pet. Skills taught include leash manners, go to place, wait/go, recall, and sit/down. It’s a great place for dogs to gain the skills needed for a great life with their family.
Basic Obedience 2
Good Dog 2: Distance, Duration & Distraction (Dogs 9 months and older; prerequisite: Good Dog!): Your dog has basic skills – sit, down, recall. In this class we refine those skills, adding the three D’s: distance, duration, and distraction. These skills make life really great with your dog. Whether you frequent the dog park or day care, teaching your dog to down/stay with duration or sit/stay with distractions are just some of the key skills needed for success in the community.
Basic Obedience 3
Off Leash: Who is walking who? Do you feel like your dog takes you for a walk? Do you wish your dog reliably returned to your side, even during off leash activities? If so, this is the class for you! Come to our 6 week course and learn easy and effective methods for walking your dog, on or off leash. With some patience and consistency you will be rewarded with a dog who walks beautifully by your side, or returns to your side on cue, making walks pleasurable for both of you! All ages are welcome.
