Our Dog Daycare & Boarding in Whitmore Lake
Most dog daycare facilities are indoor spaces with outdoor breaks. The Doghouse of Whitmore Lake is the opposite. Our dogs spend their days outside in large play yards, a dedicated pond yard, and on off-leash walks that stretch across 200 acres of open land near Whitmore Lake, Michigan. This is what dog care looks like when dogs actually get to be dogs.
A Day of Daycare
A day at The Doghouse WL is designed to do two things at once: give your dog a genuinely great time, and send them home genuinely tired–not wired, not overstimulated, but the kind of deep-down tired that comes from a full day spent the way a dog is meant to spend it.
Morning
Dogs arrive during drop-off hours and are welcomed by staff they already know. Groups are organized based on play style, energy level, and social comfort, not just size. The goal from the first minute is calm, positive energy.
Outdoor Play
This is the heart of the day. Dogs rotate through large outdoor play yards with active handler supervision. Play is structured but not rigid. Dogs explore, run, socialize, and move at their own pace. For dogs who love water, the pond yard is part of the rotation. Off-leash trail walks across 200 acres give dogs the kind of space and sensory richness that no fenced yard alone can offer.
Rest & Recovery
Structured rest periods are built into every day. Dogs need downtime as much as they need play; it’s how they process new experiences, regulate energy, and avoid overstimulation. Rest is especially important for younger dogs, nervous dogs, and dogs still building confidence in the environment.
Afternoon & Pick-up
The day winds down with quieter play and relaxed group time. Dogs are ready for pick-up by the end of the day happy, calm, and tuckered out in the best possible way.
A Night of Boarding
At most boarding facilities, the overnight stay is the whole experience. At The Doghouse WL, the overnight stay is the quiet end to an already full day.
A full day before the night begins
Every boarding dog participates in a complete daycare day: outdoor play, socialization, exercise, rest before the evening starts. By the time dogs settle in for the night, they’re not anxious or restless. They’re tired, relaxed, and surrounded by people and routines they already know. This is the reason daycare comes first in our process. Dogs who have spent weeks or months building relationships with our staff and learning our routine don’t just tolerate boarding—they’re comfortable and calm. That calm isn’t something we manufacture, it’s the natural result of familiarity, trust, and a genuinely good day.On-site overnight care
Overnight care at The Doghouse WL is provided on-site. Not remotely, not by camera, not by someone checking in from home. A real person is here with the dogs through the night, every night. That’s peace of mind you can trust, not just hope for.Why we require daycare first
We know it takes patience. The 5-step process (welcome visit, trial daycare, consistent daycare, trial overnight, and then boarding) can take 1–3 months. But the dogs who go through it board calmly, sleep well, and come home happy. That outcome is worth every visit it took to get there.
